The following is a demonstration of Provision Networks Multimedia Redirection for VDI and Windows Terminal Services.
The first video will be played using the standard Microsoft Remote Desktop Client connected to a Windows XP Pro Virtual Desktop. You’ll notice that the video playback is choppy.
The second video will be played using Provision Networks Multimedia Redirection connected to a clone of the same Windows XP Pro Virtual Desktop. You’ll notice a discinct difference in the playback fluidity vs the rendering with Microsoft’s RDP Protocol.
The final video will be played locally to compare the performance of Provision Networks Multimedia Redirection vs local playback. As you can see, there is no difference between local playback and multimedia being played with Provision Networks Multimedia Redirection technology.

At Quest Software we have licensed the Microsoft RDP Protocol, and have enhanced it to make it perform well over even low bandwidth connections.
In this video we compare two VDI desktops side-by-side across the same WAN connection. The remote desktops and the client are all running Windows XP, but one of the remote desktops is enhanced with Quest Software’s EOP (Experience Optimized Protocol).
This enhancement both compresses RDP and alters the way it is drawn on the screen, make it display high quality graphics and animations in a rapid fashion, which is just not possible with the standard Microsoft Remote Desktop Client and RDP Listener.
This enhancement completely changes how all graphics are displayed for VDI and Windows Terminal Services using VDI, so sessions use less bandwidth, and the display performance is like what the end user would expect, instead of sluggish and unresponsive.
This is not like other products such as Wyse TCX that only affects multimedia, and is tied to specific client devices. This improves all graphics, and is not tied to clients from a specific vendor.

Quest Software is a licensee of the Microsoft RDP Protocol, and has extended the protocol with features such as Seamless Windows, Enhanced Multi-montitor support, Multimedia Redirection, USB Device Support, bi-directional audio, and graphics acceleration.
This is a demonstration of the performance difference between Microsoft RDP 6.1 and Quest Software’s graphic acceleration enhancements to the Microsoft RDP Protocol.
On the screen notice that I have configured the Vista SP1 Remote Desktop’s local policy to Optimize RDP to use less network bandwidth. This is the maximum data compression level and best performance currently offered by Microsoft for the RDP Protocol.
Pause.
This test was performed across a bandwidth limited Wide area network with 150 miliseconds of latency.
As we can see, even with the highest level of RDP Data Compression, graphics are not displayed smoothly. Now I will show the same Microsoft Silverlight web content rendered with Quest’s RDP Graphics Acceleration over the same network connection
As we can see with Quest’s RDP graphics acceleration, the Silverlight content is displayed very smoothly. In addition to providing an excellent user experience, this technology dramatically reduces network bandwidth consumption, by up to 800%.
This graphics acceleration is not limited to web content, but rather any graphics displayed via RDP.
Quest’s RDP Graphics acceleration is available as part of the Experience Optimization Pack for Provision Networks Virtual Access Suite, for Terminal Services, Virtual and Physical Desktops.
