(UK QUESTION) Do you think the new terminal 5 at heathrow will be ok after a bad start on day 1?

October 30th, 2008 | by admin |

Watching BBC news they seem to have had some "teething" problems in the new terminal 5, do you think they will sort them out ok or will there be "constant" problems.

The new baggage handling system looks over complicated to run every day with out problem. ( program on ch5 shows how its made cost £250million pounds)

This could only happen in England.
Years in the planning, years in construction, many millions of pounds spent. The opening day planned for months and months and on the day itself a complete and utter circus. Now that really puts the Great in "Great Britain" doesn't it? NO wonder Wales and Scotland want devolution, to separate themselves from these clowns.

It had problems because the three villages where the proposed runway is to be have cursed them!! Everyone is laughing up their sleeve!!……no…not the wind sock…their sleeves.

With all due respect to Robin D, it couldn't "only happen in England". When the new Denver International Airport opened in the USA in 1993 the automated baggage handling system collapsed in a heap, and it took 16 months to get sort-of working. It never worked particularly well, and it became known in 2005 that it was was to be abandoned.

    Eventually,

But I'll avoid it for the next year or two. There are plenty of other airlines out there.

It would have been naiive to assume that it would be all working perfectly from the off. But I think more has gone wrong than can be justified. It'll be sorted out soon enough though.
